Tax Information
Sales tax and excise tax on vaping products vary by state and local jurisdiction. At NanoEcig, we automatically calculate and apply the appropriate taxes based on your shipping address.
What Taxes Apply?
- State Sales Tax: Most states require collection of sales tax on vaping product purchases. Rates range from 0% to over 10% depending on your state.
- Vaping Product Excise Tax: Several states impose additional excise taxes specifically on vaping products. These are calculated as a percentage of the wholesale or retail price. Affected states include California, Colorado, Illinois, Oregon, Utah, Vermont, Washington, and others.
- Local Taxes: Some cities and counties add their own taxes on top of state taxes.
Tax Display: Estimated taxes are shown in your cart before you complete your purchase. The final tax amount will be itemized on your order summary and receipt.
Tax Exemptions: If you are a tax-exempt organization, please contact our support team with your tax exemption certificate before placing an order.
Tax laws are subject to change. The rates applied at checkout reflect the most current tax requirements for your shipping destination.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How is the tax amount calculated for my order?
Taxes are calculated automatically based on your shipping address. We apply the combined state, local, and excise tax rates for that location to the total cost of the items in your cart. For more details on where we ship, see our US Shipping Information & Delivery Times and Shipping Restrictions by State.
Q: Why did the tax amount change between my cart and my order confirmation?
The estimated tax shown in your cart uses the best available rate for your shipping address at that time. The final tax is recalculated when you complete the order, and it may differ if your shipping address was updated or if tax rates changed. This final amount is itemized on your order summary and receipt. You can learn more about the checkout process in How to Place Your First Order.
Q: Are there any states that do not charge sales tax on vaping products?
Yes, a few states do not impose a state sales tax, but they may still have excise taxes or local taxes. For a detailed list, refer to our State-by-State Vape Laws article. Additionally, federal regulations like the PACT Act & Online Vape Sales may affect tax collection.
Q: How can I get a tax exemption if I represent a qualified organization?
If you are a tax-exempt organization (e.g., government agency, nonprofit), you must contact our support team and provide your valid tax exemption certificate before placing an order. We cannot retroactively apply exemptions after purchase. For any other questions, see FDA Regulations & Compliance and Age Verification Requirements.
Q: Do I need to pay any taxes if I return a product?
Taxes are handled according to our return policy. Generally, if you receive a refund for the product, the corresponding sales tax is also refunded. However, excise taxes may not be refundable in all cases. Please check your order confirmation or contact support for specifics. For order tracking, refer to our Order Tracking Guide.
